Cole Academy has a thirty (30) year history of serving children in the greater Lansing area. Presently Cole Academy is a kindergarten through fifth grade school with a capacity of 180 students. The building provides a small intimate setting for the students and staff.
The school is conveniently located at 1915 West Mt. Hope between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Pleasant Grove Road. The building is equipped with a security system that keeps all doors locked during and after school hours. This system provides a safe and secure environment for the children attending Cole Academy. Parents, students and guests must use a key pad or buzz the school administrative assistant to enter the building.
The philosophy at Cole Academy is that all children have value, therefore; it is the responsibility of all Cole Academy staff to educate and supervise the students attending the Academy. The staff at Cole Academy work together to provide the best possible environment for teachers to teach and children to learn. In short, it is the responsibility of everyone at Cole Academy to make it a great place to learn.
Each classroom is staffed with a certified teacher and a highly qualified Para-professional teacher assistant. Mr. Henderson, the building principal, oversees the operation of the school and is a familiar face as students and parents arrive and leave the building each day.
There are many opportunities for parents to be involved at Cole Academy. Parents and family are always welcome to attend the activities at the school. You may visit our web site. In addition, parents may call the school at any time for a personal conference with teachers or Mr. Henderson.
The school has a Volunteer Program that supports classroom and school events. Parents interested in participating may call the school office to sign up. The support of our parents is valued and welcome. Parents may also participate in the Cole Academy PTA. Please refer to the PTA section on our web site for the dates and times of meetings.
The Cole Academy Board of Directors also welcomes parents and interested parties to attend Board meetings. The Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month. The dates and times for the meeting are also posted on Board of Directors section of the Cole Academy web site.
Nutrition is an import part of our students’ day. Our school meal program provides breakfast and lunch for families who are interested. All families are provided with information about our meal program at the beginning of each year. The school menu is posted on the web site. For immediate information, you may call the school office.

Character Counts
In an effort to create and maintain a positive and nurturing learning environment for our students, all of our Cole Academy family follows the standards set forth by our Code of Conduct. The corner stone for the program is RESPECT. Respect for self, others, and property. In short, students are expected to follow the Student Pledge as they conduct themselves in their classrooms, on the playground, in the lunchroom and in the community.
Our students are taught these attributes and expected to follow them. Cole academy is a school where Character Counts. We guarantee that all students will be treated with dignity and respect.
Students are taught to use “REACT” as they interact with their peers, staff, and parents. REACT stands for Respect, Effort, Ability, Character, and Togetherness…the Cole Academy Student Pledge.
